Orange Beach, Ala. – NAIA Championship Final Site play begins today. 10 teams will duke it out over seven days to be named National Champions.

Today the eight seed #15 University of the Cumberlands takes on nine seed #16 Westmont at 1 pm. The Patriots (16-5-1) were the sole survivor from the Siloam Springs bracket slipping past #22 Benedictine in pk's and upsetting #6 John Brown 2-0. The Warriors defeated the #24 Embry-Riddle 2-1 and blanked Marymount 5-0.

This afternoon seven seed #12 Aquinas will face the 10 seed #19 Oregon Tech. The Saints (21-1-1) advanced from the Marion Bracket defeating Hope International 2-1 and upsetting host #7 Indiana Wesleyan 2-0. The Owls (18-2-1) moved on from the Bartlesville bracket defeating Science & Arts 4-1 and advancing past host Oklahoma Wesleyan on pks.

Quarterfinal action will commence on Thursday with eight teams vying to advance to the semifinals.

The action begins with four seed #5 Central Methodist and five seed #2 Keiser squaring off at 10 am. The Eagles (21-1) cleared the Columbia bracket sweeping Bellevue 8-0 and #13 Columbia 2-0. The Seahawks (16-2) advanced from the West Palm Beach bracket blanking both the College of Idaho 3-0 and #14 Cumberland 2-0.

The second match of the day will feature the one seed #1 William Carey and the winner of Cumberlands/Westmont at 1 pm. The Crusaders (20-0) shut out Louisiana Christian 1-0 and Reinhardt 2-0.

The third match will be the two seed #3 Spring Arbor and the winner of Aquinas/Oregon Tech at 3 pm. The Cougars (18-1-1) got by Ohio Valley 1-0 and #21 Truett McConnell 2-1.

The final match on Thursday will feature the three seed #4 University of Tennessee Southern and six seed #8 Marian. The Firehawks (20-1) blew through the Pulaski bracket defeating Judson 10-2 and #25 SCAD 6-1. Keito Ido leads the NAIA in goals scored with 35. Yuki Watari leads in assists with 23, and Adisa Amang is right behind her with 22. The Knights (17-4-1) made it through the Indianapolis bracket slipping by both Northwestern Ohio and #11 Lindsey Wilson 1-0.

Qualifier Highlights

  • Seven of the 10 qualifiers for the 2021 final site were also there a season ago. William Carey (Miss.), Spring Arbor (Mich.), Tennessee Southern, Central Methodist (Mo.), Keiser (Fla.), Marian (Ind.), and Cumberlands (Ky.) all repeat this year.
  • The Crossroads League and the Mid-South lead all leagues with two qualifiers in the final site field.
  • Westmont (Calif.) leads the field with the most national titles with five.
  • Keiser will attempt to become the first team since 2011 to win three consecutive national championships. Former member institution Lee (Tenn.) won four-in-a-row from 2008 through 2011.
  • Central Methodist and Aquinas lead all teams in final site action with 21 wins on the season.
  • William Carey is the lone undefeated team in the field. The Crusaders enter play with a 20-0-0 record.
  • Two of the top five goal scorers will be playing on day one on Tuesday. Keito Ido of Tennessee Southern is the top goal scorer of the year with 35. Andrea Villar of Central Methodist ranks No. 5 with 28 on the year. Ido also leads the nation in points with 86.
  • Tennessee Southern also enters play with the top two players in assists in 2021. Yuki Watari and Adisa Amang will enter play with a combined 45 helpers on the season.
  • Watari has improved her season total from last year by nine, while Amang has 13 more than a season ago.
  • Amang, Marian's Erin Oleksak, and William Carey's Ana Paula Santos are the only players outside of Ido and Villar that are ranked in the top 10 in goals scored this year.
  • Villar leads the NAIA with eight game-winning goals this season. Jayden Boelter of Cumberlands (Ky.) is ranked No. 7 in the nation in the same category with seven.
  • Samantha Tracey and Emily Ponstein have become a powerful goalkeeping duo for Spring Arbor. Both rank in the top 10 in goals against. Tracey has yet to allow a goal while splitting time, as Ponstein has allowed just four.
  • Tracey and Ponstein, along with Central Methodist's Grace Reynolds, Laura Vogt of Cumberlands, and Alyx Burkhartzmeyer of Oregon Tech all rank in the top 10 of keepers in save percentage.
