Firehawks Bomb Bears in Regular Season Finale

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team celebrated senior day with a victory defeating Shawnee State 7-2 on Saturday. Three Firehawk seniors, Kaitlynn Garner, Kamryn Murdock, and Kayla Lawrence, were honored before the game.

GAME ONE

UTS would strike first scoring in the first inning. Kaley Ezell would double to right field scoring Sydney Self. UTS held the lead after one 1-0.

In the fourth inning, Anisten Burleson doubled to left center driving in Haley Barnes. Later in the inning, Self would single down the left field line scoring Allie Toone. The Firehawks would lead 3-0 after four.

In the fifth, Barnes would hit a sacrifice fly that scored Stella Gilbreath. UTS would extend the lead to 4-0 after five.

SSU would score a pair in the sixth, but UTS would answer with three of their own in the bottom half. Self would reach via an SSU error allowing Abigail Hornbuckle to score. Mckenzie Cain would single up the middle scoring Self and Toone.

Murdock would take the win by tossing a complete game. Murdock would allow two earned runs on six hits.

 

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will travel to Bowling Green, Ky. to compete in the Mid-South Conference Championship next week at South Warren High School. Pairings will be announced late tonight or on Sunday.
