Firehawks Whack Wildcats, Take Series 2-1

McKENZIE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team got the best of the Bethel Wildcats in the final game of the weekend set on Sunday. UTS won 4-3 in the series rubber match.

GAME THREE

The Wildcats took an early 2-0 lead scoring a run in the second and third innings.

The Firehawks would answer with a three-spot in the fifth. Abigail Hornbuckle would double scoring Haley Barnes. Sydney Self would single scoring Hornbuckle. Kaley Ezell would single driving in Self. UTS would take the lead at 3-2 heading to the bottom of the fifth.

BU would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, but UTS would cash in a sacrifice fly by Megan Parrott that allowed Kayla Lawrence to come home. UTS would break the tie and lead 4-3.

Stella Gilbreath would toss her second gem of the weekend. Gilbreath would allow three earned runs on 12 hits in the complete game effort.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will close out the regular season with a three-game series with Shawnee State at Royce Hughes Field beginning on April 28th. UTS will celebrate senior day during the series.
