Howell Passes 2,000 Career Assists, Firehawks Fall in Three to Toppers

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team opened Southern States Athletic Conference play with a three-set loss (21-25, 21-25, 21-25) to Blue Mountain Christian on Sunday. The match was scheduled to take place on Saturday the 9th, but due to a scheduling hiccup the match was postponed and moved to the Curry Athletic Complex today.

UT Southern (6-5, 0-1) got out to an early lead in set one, but Blue Mountain Christian (7-1, 1-0) fought back and took the first set. BMC and UT Southern traded the lead in both final two sets, but The Toppers took advantage of some Firehawk errors to secure the win.

Morgan Avrit led with 14 kills. Laura Howell compiled 28 assists. Hailey Walker dug out 12 attacks.

QUEST FOR 2,000

With Howell's 28 assists today, she passed the 2,000 career assists milestone in her career at UT Southern.

UT Southern will host Fisk Tuesday, September 12th. The first serve is set for 6 p.m.
