Firehawks Split Home Twin Bill

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team dropped a match with rival Bethel in four sets (25-14, 17-25, 22-25, 22-25) but rebounded with a four-setter win against Reinhardt (25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19) on Tuesday (Oct. 11).

The Firehawks dominated the first set against the Wildcats, but BU swept the Firehawks in the next three sets. 

Three Firehawks had eight terminations each. Sophia Ortega, Morgan Avrit, and Brianna Turner contributed 24 total kills in the match. Laura Howell would add 28 assists and 10 digs. Hannah Oliver would shovel up 18 attacks.

In the second match, UTS would trade blows with the Eagles but hold out for the win in set one. The Firehawks would take the second set and push for the sweep. The Eagles had other ideas. UTS would take the fourth set for the win.

Turner would lead the offensive with 14 kills and 14 digs. Ortega would just miss a double-double performance with 11 terminations and nine digs. Laura Howell would have a match-high 33 assists. Hannah Oliver and Hailey Walker would each shovel up 13 attacks.

NEXT UP

Tennessee Southern will continue the three-game homestand hosting Freed-Hardeman on Saturday, October 15. The first serve against the Lions is scheduled for 3 p.m.
