Firehawks Fall in Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team fell in straight sets (14-25, 20-25, 20-25) on Friday (Oct. 7) against Cumberlands.

The Firehawks got off to a slow start and errors stranded them in the opening set. In set two, UTS would start with an 8-3 lead, but the Patriots would slowly chip away at the Firehawk lead to have the advantage of 2-0. In the final set, the Firehawks tried to force a fourth but fell short. 

Morgan Avrit led with 10 kills on 27 swings. Laura Howell would post a double-double with 27 assists and 15 digs. Hannah Oliver would amass 18 digs, and Brianna Turner would add 15 digs. Sophia Ortega would also have double-digit digs with 11.

Tennessee Southern will travel to Pikeville, Ky. on Saturday, October 8. The first serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
