Tigers Ground Firehawks in Home Opener

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team fell in straight sets (20-25, 22-25, 14-25) on Wednesday (Sept. 7) against Campbellsville.

The Firehawks dug a hole early in the match trailing 7-2, but would almost bring the match even at 7 all. Campbellsville would take the first set and jump out to a 4-0 lead in the second. The Firehawks would feed off the electric CAC crowd, to only trail 23-22 late in the set. CU would take the final two points of the set to try and complete the sweep. The third set was all Tigers as they would improve to 4-2; 1-0 in MSC play on a 15-5 final run. 

The Firehawks (3-10, 0-1) would drop their eighth straight. Brianna Turner led UTS with eight kills on 23 swings, and Sophia Ortega would add seven kills on 24 tries. Laura Howell would have her third double-double performance of the year logging 16 assists and 12 digs. Hannah Oliver would have a team-high 16 digs.

NEXT UP

Tennessee Southern will host the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson at the CAC on Saturday, September 10th, at 3 pm. The JV squad will compete at 1 p.m.
