Women's Tennis Have Success at the Firehawk Shoot Out

DECATUR, Ala. - The UT Southern Women's tennis team hosted the inaugural Firehawk Shoot Out on Friday, October 21st at the Jimmy John's Tennis Center in Decatur, Alabama.  The format was multiple rounds of singles and doubles match play with players from three different schools on hand.

The UT Southern women went an impressive 17-2 overall that day in match play led by seniors Emely Castro and Margaret Lucas. Otone Odijima had an outstanding day with 3 singles and 2 doubles wins to add to her young but stellar college career. "This was a good chance for our ladies to get some much-needed singles and doubles match play to continue our development," said Head Tennis Coach Bill Riddle.

This "individual" format is standard in fall tournament play and gives the players a chance to compete in multiple matches based on ability levels.  The Lady Firehawks last competed in the ITA Regional Championships in Bowling Green, KY with their next competition set for Saturday, November 5th in McKenzie, TN.
