No. 11 Firehawks Fall on Double Overtime Hail Mary Set-Piece in SSAC Semifinal

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer squad battled Life to three scoreless periods, but an early double overtime foul led to a a heartbreaking 1-nil defeat the SSAC Semifinal.

UT Southern (14-4-2) outshot Life (12-3-2) 7-4 in the opening half, but stingy defense was the theme of the match. Both squads continued to work for mismatches but remained scoreless after 90 minutes of play. UTS led in shots 11-6 heading to the extra period.

Overtime began with the same intensity from both sides. Neither the Firehawks nor the Runnin' Eagles were able to get a shot off in the first ten-minute installment. Life took advantage and scored on a 33-yd set-piece inside of the 101st minute. Trailing 1-nil the Firehawks would have two shots on target, but couldn't slip them by the LU keeper.  UT Southern held the shot advantage of 13-9 and led shots on goal 7-3.

Layken Stockstill (11-2-2) took the loss allowing a lone long-range set-piece goal and recording two saves.
