Michael Strikes Three Times, #11 Firehawks Shutout Nighthawks

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer squad netted a triple in both halves enroute to a 6-nil win over Thomas on Saturday. UT Southern closed out the regular season schedule claiming seven wins out of their last eight matches.   

UT Southern (13-3-2, 8-1-1) would get on the board first in the 19th minute. Nao Katamoto would net the game winner from NAIA National Player of the Week Marina Nawa. Five minutes later, Hikaru Uchida would finish the Miran Sakai pass to put the Firehawks on top 2-nil. In the final 10 minutes of the half, Maclani Michael would find the nylon on an assist from Nawa. UT Southern held a 3-nil lead at the break. The Firehawks led 10-2 in shots.

In the final half, the Firehawks would extend their lead with three more goals. Michael would net the next two goals, one with a double helper from Sakai and Uchida, one assisted by Jessica Glassman. In the final 10 minutes, Nawa would find the net from the lag by Uchida. UT Southern would out Thomas 20-9 and hold the shots on goal advantage 12-3.

Layken Stockstill (10-1-2) would share the clean sheet with Petra Brncova. Stockstill recorded one save, and Brncova tallied a pair of saves.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will move on to the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament beginning in the first weekend of November.
