No. 12 Firehawks and Runnin’ Eagles Play to a Draw

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer squad scored the first pair of goals in the match, but Life would add a late pair to level the match to a 2-2 tie on Thursday.  

UT Southern (8-3-2, 3-1-1) took the first half lead in the 35th minute. Nao Katamoto finished a cross from Kamilia Tayebi that played off the head of Maclani Michael. The Firehawks led in shots at the half 11-7.

In the second half, both teams would add goals. In the 78th minute, Marina Nawa beat the Life (7-2-1, 5-0-1) keeper from the penalty spot to make give the Firehawks a two-goal lead. The Runnin' Eagles would shave the lead in half in the 86th minute. In the final two minutes, an unfortunate Firehawk foul in the box gave Life a second life. The Runnin' Eagles would score on the ensuing PK to level the match. Life would lead in shots 20-16 and both sides would record 11 shots on goal.

Layken Stockstill (7-1-2) would allow a pair of goals in a complete game effort recording nine saves.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will travel to Dalton, Ga., to rumble with the Roadrunners on Sunday, October 8. The SSAC match will kickoff at 11:00 a.m.
