Katamoto and Nawa Lift the No. 10 Firehawks Over the Toppers

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team used a pair of second half goals to defeat Blue Mountain Christian 2-nil on Saturday.  

UT Southern (6-2-1, 1-0) outshot the Toppers in the opening half but could not slip one by the Blue Mountain Christian (2-5-1, 0-1) keeper. The Firehawks led in shots 13-1 at the half.

In the second half, the Firehawks would take a lead they would never relinquish. Nao Katamoto would finish the Marina Nawa pass in the 53rd minute. Eight minutes later, Nawa would beat the Topper keeper from the Jessica Glassman lag. UT Southern would lead in shots 21-3 and hold an 8-2 shot on goal margin.

Layken Stockstill (5-1-1) recorded two saves and kept the clean sheet in the 90 minute effort.

The Firehawks will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., facing #1 William Carey on Thursday, September 21. The SSAC match will kickoff at 5 p.m.
