No. 8 Firehawks Clip Eagles, Advance to Face Tigers

PULASKI, Tenn. – The #8 University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team burned the nets early, scoring a pair of goals in the opening seven minutes, in route to a 3-nil win against Texas A&M-Texarkana in the NAIA Opening Round. UTS notched its 12 consecutive opening-round wins since 2013 at Grissom Pitch.

In the opening half, UTS would begin total domination scoring three goals and holding TAMU to only three shots. In the fifth minute, MSC Player of the Year, Estelle Badoedana Ekada would net her 25th goal off the double assist from Yuki Watari and Kira Goodwin. Two minutes later, Watari would net her 19th score of the season from the Ekada pass. Just before the water break, Ravynne Wilson would connect for her 8th two-pointer of the year from the Ekada setup. UTS would lead in shots 9-3.

In the second half, both teams would hold each other in check. The Firehawks would outshoot the Eagles 14-7 and lead shots-on-goal 6-5.

Layken Stockstill recorded four saves on four chances in the win. Brooke Shavers would knock down one shot in the combined clean sheet effort.

UTS improved to 15-4-2 on the season, and TAMU suffered defeat for the second time this year falling to 17-2-1.

The Firehawks will close out 2022 play at Grissom Pitch hosting Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, November 19th. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

ONU scored a pair of goals in the final four minutes to upset #12 SCAD-Savannah 2-1 tonight at Grissom Pitch.
