No. 8 Firehawks Overwhelm Wildcats, Advance to MSC Semifinals

PULASKI, Tenn. – The #8 University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team defeated Bethel for the second time this season via a 1-nil win on Friday, November 4. UTS will advance to the MSC semifinals to be held on November 9th in Williamsburg, Ky.

In the opening half, both teams would have some great chances but could not take advantage leaving the score level and nil-nil. UTS would lead in shots 5-2.

In the second half, the Firehawks would catch the best of the Wildcats. Yuki Watari would find an open Estelle Badoedana Ekada for her 22nd score of the year. The Firehawks would outshoot the Wildcats 13-7 and would lead shots-on-goal 4-3.

Brooke Shavers recorded three saves on three chances sealing the clean sheet. She improved to 9-3-2 on the season between the sticks.

MAKING HISTORY

Two Firehawks were honored after today's win.

With today's start, fifth-year senior Sara Casey broke the program record for appearances. Her 105 appearances passed the prior mark held by Abbie Madden (104).

 Recording an assist against #3 William Carey on September 15th, Senior Yuki Watari became the all-time program assist leader passing Shannon Walter's previous mark of 55. With Watari's assist today, she has accumulated 66 in her career.

MSC QUARTERFINAL RESULTS

  • Fifth seed Campbellsville defeated fourth seed #14 Cumberland 4-2.
  • Top seed #3 Cumberlands defeated eighth seed Shawnee State 4-1.
    • #14 Campbellsville will take on #3 Cumberlands.
  • Sixth seed Thomas More defeated third seed #20 Lindsey Wilson 3-1.
  • Second seed #8 Tennessee Southern defeated seventh seed Bethel 1-0.
    • #8 Tennessee Southern will take on Thomas More.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will travel to Williamsburg, Ky. to take on the sixth seed Thomas More on Wednesday, November 9th. UTS defeated TMU during the regular season 4-1 at Grissom Pitch.
