Watari Scores a Pair, No. 6 Firehawks Shutout Lions on Senior Day

PULASKI, Tenn. – The No. 6 University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team celebrated an exceptional senior group with a 5-nil win against former Tran-South Athletic Conference foe Freed-Hardeman on Saturday, October 1. 

The Firehawks would get on the scoreboard early. In the 9th minute, Yuki Watari would score off the Ravynne Wilson assist. Ten minutes later Wilson would finish an Annah Norman pass to lift the Firehawks to a 2-nil lead. UTS would lead in shots 13-1.

In the second half, the Firehawks would strike three more times. Watari would complete a brace from the Estelle Badoedana Ekada in the 53rd minute. Ekada would add a score in the 61st minute from the Hayden Galloway assist. In the final ten minutes, Anais Stephany would net her third career goal from a Madison Luttrell helper. The Firehawks would outshoot the Lions 22-4 and would lead shots-on-goal 16-1.

Hallie Cherry recorded one save on one chance recording a clean sheet. She notched her first win of the season between the sticks.

SENIOR DAY

10 Seniors were honored after the victory. This group has completed some staggering accolades. They have compiled an 83-9-5 record including today's win, four conference championships, made four consecutive NAIA National Tournament final sites, have never been ranked outside the top 10 in the NAIA Coaches poll, and won the 2021 NAIA National Championship.
