Watari Braces, Firehawks Wrangle Wildcats

McKENZIE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team scored the first three goals of the match to defeat the Bethel Wildcats 3-2 on Wednesday, September 28. This would bring the series between the squads to favor UTS 28-0-1 in 29 meetings.

In the opening half, UTS would get on the board on a Yuki Watari shot from Anais Stephany in the 29th minute. UTS would lead in shots 8-2.

In the second half, Watari would finish her brace from the Estelle Badoedana Ekada pass to lift the Firehawks to a 2-nil lead. Ekada would net the eventual game-winner in the 70th minute. The Wildcats would add a pair of late goals in an effort for a level result. The Firehawks would outshoot the Wildcats 15-11 and would lead shots-on-goal 11-6.

Watari's brace gives her seven goals on the year and moves her into third all-time with 62 netted shots. Ekada notched her team-leading 11th score of the season.

Brooke Shavers recorded four saves on six chances allowing a pair of goals. She earned her sixth win of the season between the sticks.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will return to Grissom Pitch for senior day to take on Freed-Hardeman on Saturday, October 1st at 1:30 pm. Saturday will also be Homecoming at UTS. Freed fell to Cumberland this evening 2-nil.
