Ekada Braces as No.7 Firehawks Defeat No. 3 Crusaders

FOLEY, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team made it two in a row against #3 William Carey in a 3-2 victory on Thursday, September 15. This match was a close sequel to the 3-3 win in the 2021 NAIA National Title game played just nine miles away.   

WCU bounced out in front in the opening half on a 17th-minute goal by Julia Herbst. The Crusaders would lead in shots at the break 15-7.

The Firehawks would find the equalizer in the 65th minute. Senior Isabelle Vazquez would notch her first score of the season. Later in the half, Estelle Badoedana Ekada would quickly complete a brace in the span of 23 seconds. Yuki Watari would be credited with an assist on the final Ekada goal. WCU would try to push for a tie result but would come up short. WCU would end the match with a 26-13 shot advantage, and UTS would take shots-on-goal 11-10.

Senior keeper Brooke Shavers took the win recording eight saves on 10 chances. Shavers would improve to 3-2 on the year.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will return to action on Saturday facing #23 Georgia Gwinnett on September 17th. The kickoff is set for 1:30 pm in Foley, Ala.
