No. 18 Bees Flutter by No.1 Firehawks

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The #1 University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team tasted defeat for the second time in the 2022 campaign after a 3-2 loss against #18 SCAD Savannah on Monday, Sept. 5. This is the first time the Firehawks had dropped two in a row since 2014 when they dropped a pair on 1-nil matches to #3 William Carey and #10 Mobile.

UTS would jump out in front when Anais Stephany would net her first score as a Firehawk in the 36th minute. Pressure applied by Yuki Watari and Estelle Badoedana Ekada would lead to a misplay by the Bees' defense. Tennessee Southern would hold the shot advantage 14-5 at the break.

The Bees would level the match in the 58th minute with a finish on a cross to the back post. The Firehawks would take back the lead just 10 minutes later when Ekada would strike her fourth goal of the year on the set piece from Vida Fleur. Moments later SCAD would even the match on their own set piece goal. With just under two minutes to play, the Bees secured the game-winner from a free-kick. UTS would outshoot the Bees 24-15, and both squads would each have 11 shots on goal.

Shavers allowed three goals and recorded eight saves. She would fall to 2-2 on the season guarding the net.
