CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA® NAIA SOCCER TEAMS ANNOUNCED
AUSTIN, TEXAS | A pair of graduate students headline the Academic All-America® NAIA Men's and Women's Soccer Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
William Carey University midfielder Ana Paula Santos and Milligan University goalkeeper Jan Kuepper were selected as the Academic All-America® Team Members of the Year for women's soccer and men's soccer, respectively.
Santos, who was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® second team in 2019, led the William Carey to the No. 1 ranking in the final regular season NAIA Top 25 Poll. She helped the Crusaders (22-0-1) to the title game in the NAIA National Championship where they lost in penalty kicks to the University of Tennessee Southern. In 23 matches, she accumulated 25 goals and 13 assists for 63 points to be named the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
The health, recreation and physical education major tallied more than one goal in eight different matches this season and posted a pair of hat tricks. Santos ranks seventh in the NAIA with 25 goals and 63 points this season.
Ten of the 11 members of the CoSIDA Academic All-America® NAIA women's soccer team have at least a 3.80 grade-point average and the 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.89.
Nine different student athletes were repeat selections, including seven from a year ago. Abigail Meyer (Columbia (Mo.) College) and Laura Navajas Marin (University of the Cumberlands) were selected to the first team again. Becca Mindling (Spring Arbor University) and Addie Adame (Georgia Gwinnett College) moved from the second team to the top team. Earning second team honors in 2021 after being named to the first team last season were Samantha Tracey and Mackenzie Selvius (Spring Arbor) as well as Miagh Downey (Middle Georgia State University). Repeat selections from the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America® second team were Riley Massey (Taylor University) and Meyer.
Leading Milligan to one of its best seasons in school history, Kuepper finished the campaign with a school record 11 shutouts while helping the Buffs to a 15-3-1 overall record. The season came to a close in the NAIA Opening Round as Kuepper ranks 14th overall with a 0.63 goals-against average.
Kuepper posted a 3.98 undergraduate GPA and boasts a 4.0 graduate GPA while he is working through his MBA at Milligan and is joined on the first team by his teammate Elies Sebbouh.
Richie Taylor of Missouri Baptist University and Maxwell Amoako of Indiana Institute of Technology were both repeat first team selections.
Seven of 11 members of the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America® NAIA Men's Soccer team have at least a 3.80 GPA, with two student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 11 members on the first team posted an average GPA of 3.82.
