No. 19 Phoenix Slip Past No. 3 Firehawks

Pulaski, Tenn. – The #3 University of Tennessee Southern (14-1, 10-1 MSC) women's soccer suffered their first loss of the season to  #19 Cumberland in a 2-1 loss on Thursday night. 

Estelle Badoedana Ekada got the Firehawks on the board first with a strike in the 55th minute on the assist from Suzuho Yamasaki. The Phoenix (12-3-1, 8-2-1 MSC) would answer right back in the 66th minute from a goal by Haley Stephens. In the waning minutes of the second half, Brenda Cernas would have the game winner in the 88th minute. UTS would out shoot the opponents from Lebanon 11-7.

The Firehawks claimed the #1 seed for the MSC Championship. There will be four opening round games played on November 1st and 2nd at the higher seeds. The winners will then travel to the #1-#4 seeds for quarterfinal action beginning Friday November 5th. The tournament will conclude in Bowling Green, Ky. the following week with semifinal action to be played on the 10th and the finals on the 12th.

The Firehawks win their second consecutive Mid-South Conference regular season championship.

The Firehawks will travel to the Montgomery, Ala. to meet Middle Georgia State on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
