RedHawks Fall in National Quarterfinals

FOLEY, Ala. — The Martin Methodist Women's Soccer team saw its undefeated season come to a close Thursday morning with a 4-3 defeat to No. 5 seed Marian (Ind.) in the NAIA national tournament quarterfinals.

The RedHawks (18-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than 20 minutes into the contest, but saw the scrappy Knights (21-2) claw their way back into the contest and trail just 2-1 at the break.

The Knights evened the score just minutes into the second half to see the Knights draw level with the RedHawks at 2-2.

Martin Methodist would tally its third goal of the day and reclaim the lead with a goal in the 64th minute that pushed the edge to 3-2 in favor of the RedHawks.

The Knights rallied once more, however, scoring two goals in the final 20 minutes of play to draw even and then eventually take their first and only lead of the contest and secure the win.

Estelle Badoedana Ekada bagged the first and third goals of the afternoon for the RedHawks, with midfielder Abbie Madden notching the other tally of the day.

Marian outshot Martin Methodist by a 20-15 margin on the day, while the RedHawks held a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks.

The loss brings an abrupt end to a previously-undefeated season for the RedHawks, who fell to Marian for the second-straight visit to the national tournament. The RedHawks fell to the Knights, 5-3, in the 2019 iteration of the tournament.
