MMC Takes Down Madonna, 5-2, in NAIA National Tournament Opening Round

PULASKI, Tenn. – No. 4 Martin Methodist women's soccer used a 5-2 score to advance into the NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament Opening Round final on Saturday at 5pm.

"This team has through a ton of adversity these past three weeks," said head coach Will Austin. "It has brought them even closer than they were before, and a total team effort saw us through today. Playing without one of the best players in the country is not easy, but everyone else stepped up. Now, we must prepare for a difficult test on Saturday."

MMC's Adisa Amang (SR/Kumba, Cameroon) netted four of the five goals in the victory, including both of the scores in the first half.

"I'm really happy for Adisa," continued Austin. "To get four goals in a national tournament game is special."

Amang's first goal came off an assist from Estelle Ekada, while Amang bagged the second on a miscue from the Madonna defense left the net wide open.

Madonna opened the scoring in the second period to cut the lead in half, but Abbie Madden (SR/Clarksville, Tenn.) quickly found Amang again to complete the hat trick.

With 15 minutes remaining, Mackenzie Stroebel (JR/Freeland, Mich.) was rewarded with a goal of her own that was assisted by Amang after Stroebel put pressure on the Crusaders for most of the half.

The Crusaders quickly netted their second score, but Tabby Hatem dished another ball to Amang, to secure the 5-2 win.

MMC will take on Grace College on Saturday at 5pm, after the Lancers took down Benedictine College, 1-0 on Thursday.
