RedHawks Headed to MSC Championship with Win Over Cumberland, 2-0

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Top-seeded MMC advanced to the Mid-South Conference Women's Soccer Championship with 2-0 victory over No. 4 seed Cumberland at Blue Raider Stadium.

Yuki Watari (SO/Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored both goals for the RedHawks in the victory, as Martin Methodist outshot the No. 20 Phoenix 15-6 while holding a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Neither team was able to break through on the scoreboard in the first half. Cumberland had its best chance of the first half just over five minutes in, as Kenzi Vetter fired a shot off the post. Estelle Badoedana Ekada (SO/Ombessa, Cameroon) recorded both of the Martin Methodist shots on goal in the first half.

Martin Methodist got on the board first in the 73rd minute. After a Cumberland foul occurred in the box, Watari connected on the penalty kick to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. Watari increased the Martin Methodist lead to 2-0 after converting her second penalty kick of the game in the 81st minute.

The RedHawks advance to the MSC Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday, April 10 at Finley Stadium in Campbellsville, Ky. Martin Methodist will face No. 2 seed University of Cumberlands after defeating Lindsey Wilson College, 4-1.
