RedHawks Go 4-0 in Fall Season

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Martin Methodist Women's Soccer team capped its 2020 fall season with a 7-1 victory versus Dalton State (Ga.) last Saturday.

The win capped a perfect month of fall competition for the RedHawks (4-0), ahead of a majority conference-based schedule in 2021.

October 13: Martin Methodist 4, Faulkner 0:

The RedHawks started the month with a 4-0 victory at Faulkner (Ga.). Four different goalscorers featured in the RedHawk victory, with the winning goal struck in the 20th minute by sophomore standout Yuki Watari.

Mackenzie Stroebel (39'), Suzuho Yamasaki (79') and Adisa Amang ('79) also added goals in the season-opening win.

Goalkeeper Gabby Kennedy played 78-plus minutes and made five saves to pick up the win in net for the RedHawks.

October 19: Martin Methodist 5, Bob Jones University 0:

The RedHawks pushed their record to 2-0 on the season with a win versus NSCAA university Bob Jones (S.C.) on October 19.

Played at a neutral site in Chattanooga, Tenn., the RedHawks scored two goals in the opening six minutes to essentially put the game to bed early.

Watari scored the winning goal just 2:12 in the first half, with Amang notching the second goal at the 5:34 mark.

Freshman Jessica Glassman notched her first-ever RedHawk goal in the 17th minute, off an assist from Yamasaki, who had three helpers in the contest.

October 27: Martin Methodist 6, Faulkner 1:

In a rematch of the opening contest of the year, the RedHawks once again vanquished the Eagles – this time by a five-goal margin.

Yamaski – normally the facilitator – had the goals in this particular contest as she scored the first two tallies of the contest and then assisted on the goal that pushed the RedHawks to a 5-1 margin.

Kennedy and freshman Brooke Shavers once again split time in the outing, with Kennedy making two saves and allowing the lone first-half tally.

November 7: Martin Methodist 7, Dalton State 1:

The final match of the regular-season was a showdown versus an old rival in Dalton State, with the RedHawks winning by a 7-1 scoreline.

Watari, who earned Mid-South Conference Player of the Week efforts for her work, bagged three goals in the first half on a natural hat trick.

The RedHawks actually fell behind by a 1-0 margin, but ripped off seven straight goals in the easy victory.

Sophomore Estelle Badoedana Ekada accounted for two of the goals in the RedHawk victory.

OUTLOOK:

"We knew this was going to be a strange year and with some strange changes to our schedule," RedHawks head coach Will Austin said. "But I am beyond proud of the way our girls dug deep and got the job done in a crazy fall semester. The spring will be very grueling and it was good for our squad to get the reps in early so we are prepared for the spring. We will continue to work and get better as a team heading into conference play next semester."
