Eubank Notches a Double Double, Firehawks Extinguish Flames

GALLATIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball shot 33 of 64 for 52 percent out shooting Welch in a 76-60 win on Saturday. Four Firehawks contributed double digit points in the victory. Lauren Smith led with 17 points and seven rebounds. Newcomer Myah Sutton added 16 points. Faith Eubank tossed in 13 points and 11 rebounds for the double double. Kassidy Broussard scored 11 points.

In the opening stanza, UT Southern (5-14) jumped out to the early 5-0 lead and never looked back. UTS led 25-10 heading to the second period.

The Firehawks continued to shoot the ball well in the second quarter. UTS connected on seven of 12 for 58 percent and led 42-23 at the half.

In the third quarter, Sutton scored nine of the UTS points, and the Firehawks continued to blister the nets shooting 10 of 18 for 56 percent. UTS led 65-42 after three.

Welch (0-1) drew closer outscoring the Firehawks 18-11 in the final segment. UTS led in rebounds 41-28.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will return home to host Welch on Monday, February 5th. The Firehawks and Flames will tipoff at 6 p.m. UTS defeated Welch today 76-60.
