Eubank, Smith, and Sutton Each Score 13, Firehawks Knock Out Knights

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball snapped their seven-game losing streak with a 71-52 rout of Middle Georgia on Thursday. UT Southern (4-12, 3-8) held Middle Georgia State (3-12, 1-9) scoreless for over half of the opening period to lead 20-9 after one. The Firehawks kept their pesky defense going out scoring the Knights 17-7 in the second quarter leading 37-16 at the break.

In the second half, UT Southern would trade buckets with MGS but would hold the Knights in check. UTS led after three 51-31. The Firehawks would out shoot the Knights in the final period 50 to 44 percent to capture the Southern States Athletic Conference win. UTS out rebounded MGS 34-29 and forced 18 Knight turnovers.

Faith Eubank, Lauren Smith, and Myah Sutton led the Firehawks with 13 points each. Kassidy Broussard tossed in 12 points.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will host their third SSAC opponent of the week on Saturday, January 27th, when Brewton-Parker comes to town. The Firehawks and Barons will clash at noon. The teams met earlier this season in Mt. Vernon, Ga., BPC defeated UTS 63-55.
