Broussard Scores 17 and Boards 10, No. 19 WolfPack Narrowly Escape Firehawks

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball went toe to toe with #19 Loyola before falling 76-66 on Saturday. UT Southern (3-11, 2-7) swapped buckets with Loyola (14-1, 8-0) in the early going of the opening quarter. Just under three minutes left and the score tied, LU would close out the quarter doubling up UTS to lead 14-11. In the second quarter, the WolfPack would pull away out shooting the Firehawks 53 to 40 percent to lead 39-25 at the break.

In the third quarter, the Firehawks began to chip away at the Loyola lead. To begin the second half, LU would charge back at the end of the quarter to lead 59-42. The final 10 minutes would begin all Firehawks. UTS would close to within two with three and a half minutes to go. Some curtail turnovers would be the Firehawks ultimate demise in the final minutes.

Kassidy Broussard and Takiyah Goff led the Firehawks with 17 points. Faith Eubank pitched in 11 points shooting 44 percent from distance. Broussard would tack on 10 rebounds in the game. Maggie Hale contributed nine points.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will return to action on Wednesday, January 17th, hosting Stillman. The Firehawks and Tigers will clash at 5:30 p.m. The teams met earlier this season in Tuscaloosa, UTS defeated SC 71-64.
