Cold Shooting in First Quarter Sinks Firehawks Against Crusaders

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball team suffered through a brutally cold opening quarter that they couldn't overcome in a 90-59 home loss to William Carey on Tuesday. The Firehawks had a pair of players score in double figures. Kassidy Broussard led all scorers with 25 points. Takiyah Goff added 10 points and six assists.

UT Southern (3-10, 2-6) fell behind early, as William Carey (10-3, 4-3) opened up a 17-0 run during the first seven and a half minutes. Lauren Smith's lone field goal find the Firehawks in a 19-2 disadvantage after one. In the second quarter, UTS would try to close the gap, but the Crusaders would outscore the Firehawks 23-15, leading 42-17 at the break.

In the third quarter, UTS would begin on fire staring with an 8-2 run over the first three minutes. WCU would answer every attempt by UTS to draw closer holding the advantage at 64-43 with one quarter to go. William Carey would never relinquish their lead outscoring the Firehawks in the final stanza 26-16.

UT Southern will host Southern States leading Loyola on Saturday, January, 13th. The Firehawks and Wolfpack will tip-off at 12 p.m.
