Hale Scores 16, Firehawks Fall Short in Final Seconds Against Lions

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball team battled back and forth with Bryan College but a last second attempt to extend the game fell short in a 59-56 loss on Saturday. Maggie Hale led with 16 points highlighted by four triples. Takiyah Goff added 10 points. Aaryn Grace Lester pulled down 10 boards.

UT Southern (3-7) got out to a 6-0 lead, but Bryan (10-4) would battle back with a layup at the end of the quarter to lead 14-13 after one. Closing out the first half, the Firehawks held a two-point advantage, but the Lions would bank in a long three at the buzzer to lead 29-28.

In the third quarter, UTS would out score BC 15-14, until a late field goal by the Lions would add to their lead of 45-43 after three. In the final quarter, both squads would continue to trade buckets. The final ten seconds would fill the arena with excitement. A late Firehawk foul and a Lion technical would set up a last second opportunity for UTS. After a pair of Lion misses, the Firehawks would hit one of two from the charity stripe.
