Hale Drains Five Triples, Firehawks Fall Short to Runnin’ Eagles

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball came up short in a close Southern States Athletic Conference match with Life falling 68-61 on Thursday. UT Southern (2-5, 1-3) started out with a 5-0 run but Life (8-2, 4-1) would begin to heat up and take their first lead at 11-9 just before the media timeout. The Runnin' Eagles outscored the Firehawks 13-10 to close the quarter leading 24-19. In the second quarter, UT Southern would struggle from the field and turnovers would haunt them. Life opened their lead to 37-31 at the break. The third quarter was all Firehawks. UTS shot 31 percent in the third to close the gap to trail by five with the final period left to play. The Firehawks would take the lead back at 56-55 with five left to play. Maggie Hale would drain a long three to pull the Firehawks back to within three in the final two minutes. A couple of UTS turnovers would spoil the comeback. The Firehawks shot 24-63 for 37 percent from the field.

Hale led the Firehawks with 17 points connecting on five of 11 from distance. Kassidy Broussard added 12 points.

UT Southern will to action next Saturday, December 16th, hosting Blue Mountain Christian. The Firehawks and Toppers will clash at noon.
