MT. VERNON, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball team held a 49-48 lead after three periods of play, but the Barons made some crucial free-throws down the stretch handing the Firehawks their second conference loss on the young season in a 63-55 result. Lauren Smith became the second Firehawk of the season to record a double-double tossing in 10 points and pulling down 12 boards. Maggie Hale scored a career high 20 points including six triples.
UT Southern (0-4, 0-2) trailed Brewton-Parker (7-1, 2-0) at the half 35-30 and the Barons outrebounded the Firehawks 17-14.
In the third stanza, Hale connected on three long range bombs as the Firehawks outscored the home team 19-13. In the final period, the Barons made 16 trips to the charity stripe making 11.

UT Southern will travel to Nashville, Tenn., on Wednesday, November 22. The Firehawks will battle the Bulldogs of Fisk at 1 p.m.
