Mackie Scores 15, Phoenix Too Hot For Firehawks

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball held tough with Cumberland, but a big second half by the Phoenix defeats the Firehawks in a 50-39 result on Saturday.

Mary Mackie led all scorers with 15 points. 

The first half was a defensive juggernaut. Both teams would feel each other out and be knotted up at 11 after one. CU and UTS would combine for five field goals as Cumberland would hold the 19-16 lead at the half.

The Phoenix would continue to pull away shooting 64% to lead 34-29 with one quarter to play. UTS would make a run midway through the final period, but CU would close the door down the stretch.

UTS would shoot 14 of 50 for 28% from the field. There would be two lead changes and eight ties.

The Firehawks will travel to Georgetown to play the Tigers on Thursday, February 9th. Tip-off is slated for 4:30 p.m.
