Baker Leads with 18, Firehawks Fall to Bears

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball struggled during the second half falling 87-53 to Shawnee State on Saturday.

Rachael Baker led the Firehawks with 18 points.

UTS jumped out to an 8-4 lead early in the first stanza, but SSU would retake the lead late in the first to hold the 20-16 advantage. The Bears continued slowly extending their lead 44-33 at the break.

The home team would continue their torrid shooting pace in the second half. UTS would suffer shooting woes in the final half, shooting only 9-35 from the field. 

UTS would shoot 21 of 68 for 31% from the field. SSU would lite it up going 31-61 for 51%. There would be four lead changes or two ties.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will return to the CAC on Thursday, January 12, hosting Wilberforce. The Firehawks and the Bulldogs will tip at 5:30 pm.
