Cold Shooting Hinders Firehawks in Loss to Bears

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball couldn't shake the Eastern Kentucky cold in a 65-43 loss against Pikeville on Thursday.

Rachael Baker led the Firehawks with 13 points.

Pikeville took the early on a 5-0 run. Baker would score the first five UTS points, and Aaryn Grace Lester would add a layup at the buzzer to cut the UPike lead to 14-7 after one. The Bears would outscore the Firehawks 39-21 over the next two periods holding a 53-28 lead entering the final quarter of play. UTS would win the final quarter 15-12.

UTS would shoot 18 of 61 for 30% from the field. There wouldn't be any lead changes or any ties.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will close out the weekend trip by traveling to Portsmouth, Ohio to meet Shawnee State. The Firehawks and the Bears will tip at 12 pm on Saturday, January 7th.
