Mackie Leads UTS With 13 Points, No. 24 Tigers Too Much For Firehawks

 

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball dropped their final home game of 2022 in a 67-58 result with #24 Georgetown on Saturday.

Mary Mackie led the Firehawks with 13 points going 3-11 from range. Aaryn Grace Lester contributed 12 points nailing four triples. Janiyha Riley added 11 points. Takiyah Goff pitched in 10 points. Xzandrea Moore scored five points and 10 boards.

The Firehawks would lead the Tigers 12-11 at the end of the first period. GC would outscore the Firehawks 17-12 to lead 28-24 at the break. Georgetown would hold their largest lead after three holding a 49-36 edge. UTS would battle back and trail only by six in the final three minutes, but GC would slam the door for the win.

UTS would shoot 22 of 61 for 36% from the field. There would be six lead changes and two ties.

SHOOTING WOES

The Firehawks in their first eight games this season were shooting 41.7% from the floor (202/484), Dating back to their win at Wilberforce. Since UTS has been bitten by the shooting bug averaging 33.5% (81/242) in their last four losses.  

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will enjoy a break for Christmas and resume play on New Year's Eve with a bang weathering the Tornadoes of Talladega on Saturday, December 31st. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
