Goff Leads the Way With 17 Points, Tennessee Southern Subdues LaVerne

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball team picked up their first home victory of the year 79-72 victory hosting NCAA DIII LaVerne on Friday.

Four Firehawks contributed double figures in the game. Takiyah Goff led the offensive attack with 17 points. Rachael Baker and Janiyha Riley added 14 each. Xzandrea Moore threw in 11 shooting 4-6 from the field.

The Firehawks quickly jumped out to a 7-0 lead en route to a 22-12 lead after one. UTS continued to control the tempo and kept the Leopards trailing at the half 40-33.

UTS, never trailing in the game, would hold firm with a 56-46 lead after three. ULV would claw into the Firehawk lead and get to within one at 61-60. The Leopards would take their first lead via a layup off a Firehawk turnover with just over six left to play. UTS would trail for just over three minutes before retaking the lead and would not relinquish it to the leopards. The Firehawks would cash in on 27-32 from the charity stripe. LaVerne would miss 19 free throws in the seven-point loss.
