Tornadoes Sneak Past Firehawks

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball team opened the season with a 71-69 loss to Talladega on Thursday.

Two Firehawks contributed double figures in the game. Takiyah Goff led the offensive attack with 19 points. Mary Mackie dropped 14, from four triples, points from the bench.

The Tornadoes grounded the Firehawks in the first stanza. TC shot a blistering 58% from the field to hold the 16-point advantage. UTS would close the gap at the half to 40-29 shooting 8-16 in the second quarter.

The Firehawks would outscore the Tornadoes 40-31 in the second half. UTS would go to the charity stripe with less than 30 seconds left, but would only hit one to trail 70-69. TC would stave off Firehawk's comeback bid to escape with the win.
