Firehawks Fall in Two Close Games in SSAC Conference Championship Opening Round

DECATUR, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team opened Southern States Athletic Conference Championship play on Thursday. The Firehawks came up short 2-1 against Point and ran out of outs in a comeback effort against Stillman 3-1. UT Southern suffering a pair of losses was eliminated from tournament play.

GAME TWO: vs Point

UT Southern jumped out in front early scoring a run in the second. Mikayla McCain singled to right center scoring Kassidy Davis. UTS led 1-0 after two innings.

Point squeeked a pair of runs across in the third to take the lead that they would hold for the rest of the game.

Stella Gilbreath tossed the complete game allowing two unearned runs.

GAME SEVEN: vs Stillman

Stillman scored runs in the first and second innings to lead 2-0.

The Firehawks cut the lead in half plating a run in the third. Allie Toone Singled to right center scoring Abigail Hornbuckle. UTS trailed 2-1 after three innings.

In the fourth, the Tigers added another run via a long ball.

Davis tossed the complete game allowing three earned runs on four hits.
