Firehawks Split Final Home Series with Toppers, Earn Seventh Seed in Southern States Athletic Conference Championship

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team celebrated senior day at Royce Hughes Field on Saturday with double header against Blue Mountain Christian.

GAME ONE

Blue Mountain Christian scored two runs in the first to lead 2-0 after one.

BMCC added three more runs in the fourth. To stretch out the lead to 5-0.

In the sixth, the Toppers plated another pair. UT Southern pushed a run across in the bottom half to close the gap. Sydney Self hit a sacrifice fly down the left field line scoring Hannah Lindsey. UTS trailed 7-1 heading to the seventh.

In the final inning, Anisten Burleson singled up the middle scoring Kaylyn Richardson.

Kassidy Davis got the start and worked 3.2 innings allowing five earned runs on 10 hits. Macey Ciramella worked 3.1 innings allowing one earned run on five hits.

GAME TWO

BMCC struck first, scoring three of their five runs in the opening frame. In the bottom half, Kaley Ezell singled to short driving in Lindsey. Mikayla McCain singled to right center scoring Davis. UTS trailed 3-2 after one.

In the third, the Toppers used a sacrifice fly to add another run to lead 4-2.

In the fourth, the Firehawks ignited for five runs. Allie Toone singled up the middle driving in Gracie Braden and Hayley Parrott. Haley Barnes tripled to left scoring Toone and Hornbuckle. Lindsey singled up the middle scoring Barnes. UTS took the lead after four innings with the score of 7-4.

BMCC would plate a run via a Firehawk error in the sixth to trail 7-5.

Stella Gilbreath tossed the complete game allowing three earned runs on nine hits.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will travel to Decatur, Ala., to face Point University in the opening round of the SSAC Championship. The Firehawks and Skyhawks met earlier this season sweeping PU 10-2 and 8-1. The first pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 2nd.
