Ernest Smashed a Grand Slam, Firehawks Wipeout Wildcats

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team concluded their non-conference regular season schedule with a twin bill sweep over Bethel by the scores of 13-1 and 3-0 on Wednesday.

GAME ONE

UT Southern scored early and often in the first game. Hannah Lindsey hit a sacrifice fly to left driving in Allie Toone. Kaley Ezell singled up the middle scoring Haley Barnes. UTS led 2-0 after one.

Bethel scored their lone run of the first game in the second. UTS led 2-1 after two innings.

In the third Lilly Ernest doubled down the left field line scoring Stella Gilbreath, Ezell, and Kassidy Davis. The Firehawks led 5-1 after three innings.

In the fourth, Abigail Hornbuckle scored on a Wildcat throwing error. Lindsey singled up the middle scoring Barnes and Toone. Ezell singled through the right side scoring Lindsey. Ernest launched a grand slam driving in Gilbreath, Ezell, and Davis.

Davis tossed four innings allowing one unearned run on three hits. Ella Singletary tossed the final inning striking out two.

GAME TWO

The Firehawks would score two runs in the third. Lindsey singled to left center scoring Toone. Gilbreath doubled to left center driving in Lindsey. UTS led 2-0 after three.

In the sixth, Hornbuckle singled through the left side scoring Gilbreath. UTS lef 3-0 after six innings.

Gilbreath got the start and tossed a complete game earning the win. Gilbreath allowed four hits and struck out seven.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks close out the regular season with a twin bill with Blue Mountain Christian at Royce Hughes Field. Saturday's double header and senior day celebration is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
