Firehawks Sweep Tigers in Final Regular Season Road Double Header

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team evened the season series with Stillman on Friday. UTS won game one 7-3 and game two 6-5.

GAME ONE

UT Southern got on the board first. Mikayla McCain singled to right scoring Haley Barnes. In the bottom of the first, Stillman scored an uneared run to knot up the match at one.

In the fourth, Stillman scored a run to lead 2-1 after four.

In the fifth, Allie Toone singled to center scoring Abigail Hornbuckle. Kassidy Davis reached on an error driving in Toone. Hayley Parrott singled to center scoring Gracie Braden and Hannah Lindsey. UTS led 5-2 after five innings.

In the sixth, Barnes singled down the right field line scoring Kaley Ezell. Lindsey reached on a fielder's choice scoring Hornbuckle. UTS led 7-2 after six.

SC scored one run in the seventh but ran out of outs.

Davis got the start and tossed the complete game. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits.

GAME TWO

UTS exploded for five runs in the first. Davis singled to first scoring Toone. Lindsey and Barnes scored on throwing error on the play. Stella Gilbreath reached on Stillman error that allowed Davis to score. Parrott doubled down the right field line scoring Gilbreath. UTS led 3-0.

In the third, Gilbreath reached on a fielder's choice driving in Davis. Stillman scored one run in the third to trail 6-1 after three.

In the seventh, the Tigers would score four runs but fall short of a comeback.

Gilbreath got the start and tossed 6.2 innings. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits. She fanned eight SC batters. Bailey Abernathy tossed the final third of the inning. Abernathy allowed one hit.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks return to Royce Hughes Field on Wednesday, April 24th. The Firehawks and Wildcats met earlier in the season. The squads split the pair in McKenzie.
