Firehawks Sweep No. 18 Crusaders in SSAC Doubleheader

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team upended #18 William Carey in a pivotal SSAC twin bill on Friday. The Firehawks took game one 2-0 and saw a four-run lead vanish in the final inning only to walk off a 5-4 win in game two.

GAME ONE

UT Southern took the early lead scoring two runs in the third. Kassidy Davis helped her own cause with a single up the middle scoring Allie Toone and Hannah Lindsey. UTS would hold the 2-0 lead for the remainder of the game.

Davis tossed a complete game shutout allowing six hits.

GAME TWO

UT Southern struck first scoring a pair in the first stanza. Lindsey singled through the left side scoring Toone. Hayley Parrott singled to left center driving in Haley Barnes. UTS led 2-0 after one.

In the fifth, Lindsey took advantage of the wind and clobbered a long ball over the center field fence. Kaley Ezell singled down the right field line scoring Stella Gilbreath. UTS led 4-0 after five.

In the seventh, the Crusaders would plate four runs to even the match at four. Mikayla McCain would break the tie with a walk off double to left center scoring Parrott.

Gilbreath tossed the complete game allowing three earned runs on seven hits. She recorded six strikeouts.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will close out the weekend hosting #14 Mobile tomorrow at Royce Hughes Field. The Firehawks and Rams met earlier in the season in Mobile, Ala. UM took both games 1-0 and 2-0. The First pitch is scheduled for noon.
