Barons Slip by Firehawks

MT. VERNON, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team came up short in the double header with Brewton-Parker by a total of three runs. BPC took game one 5-3 and survived in extra innings 14-13 in game two.  

GAME ONE

Brewton-Parker drew first blood scoring two in the first inning and one in the third and fourth. BPC led 4-0 after four innings.

In the sixth, Kassidy Davis singled to left field scoring Hannah Lindsey. Haley Barnes doubled driving in Davis. BPC would add one more in the sixth to lead 5-2 heading to the final inning.

In the seventh with the bases loaded, Allie Toone was hit by a pitch pushing Abigail Hornbuckle across the plate.

Kassidy Davis tossed the complete game allowing four earned runs on seven hits.

GAME TWO

In the second, Stella Gilbreath homered to left. UTS led 1-0. BPC would answer, scoring three runs to take the lead.

In the fourth, the Barons would add three more runs to lead 6-1.

The Firehawks would plate six runs to regain the lead. Davis walked to force Hayley Parrott across the plate. Barnes singled to left scoring Toone. Gilbreath singled to right driving in Hannah Lindsey. Mikayla McCain singled to right scoring Barnes and Davis. Sydney Self walked forcing in Gilbreath. UTS led 7-6 heading to the bottom of the fifth. The Barons added one run to tie the game at seven.

In the sixth, UTS would add two runs. McCain doubled to left scoring Lindsey. Hornbuckle singled scoring McCain and Barnes. The Firehawks led 11-7. BPC snatched back the lead scoring five runs to lead by one heading to the seventh.

Lindsey singled to left scoring Parrott to force extra innings.

In the ninth, Davis singled up the middle scoring Toone. UTS pulled back in front 13-12. BPC would add a run in the ninth and score one in the 10th to with the marathon.

Jayci Boozer got the start and tossed 1.2 innings. She allowed two earned runs on four hits. Bailey Abernathy tossed two innings allowing three earned runs on three hits. Macey Ciramella recorded two outs allowing one earned run. Ella Singletary tossed 1.1 innings allowing five earned runs. Davis tossed 3.2 innings allowing one earned run.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will travel to Columbia, Tenn., to play Columbia State Community College in an exhibition on Tuesday, April 2. The First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Ridley Park.
