Firehawks Drop Pair to Knights

COCHRAN, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team ran out of outs in game one of the twin bill with Middle Georgia State 7-5 and dropped game two 5-1 on Thursday.  

GAME ONE

UT Southern got in the scoring column in the first. Haley Barnes drew a walk scoring Hayley Parrott. UTS led 1-0 after one.

Middle Georgia scored one in the second and one in the third to take the lead 2-1.

In the fourth, Abigail Hornbuckle launched a three-run bomb scoring Kaley Ezell and Barnes. UTS regained the lead at 4-2.

Middle Georgia would add one in the fifth and four in the sixth to lead 7-4.

In the seventh, UTS would score one run on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Lindsey that scored Parrott.

Kassidy Davis tossed the complete game allowing three earned runs on 11 hits.

GAME TWO

Middle Georgia took the lead in the first scoring one run and adding three runs in the second. UTS trailed 4-0 after two.

In the third, Davis walked to push Sydney Self across the plate. MGS would add one more in the third to lead 5-1 after three innings.

Stella Gilbreath got the start and tossed 1.1 innings allowing four earned runs. Ella Singletary hurled the final 4.2 innings allowing one earned run on two hits.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will travel to Mt. Vernon, Ga., to battle Brewton-Parker on Friday, March 29th. The twin bill will begin at noon.
