Firehawks Score Four in Extras, UT Southern Splits with Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team split a twin bill with NCAA DIII Christian Brothers on Tuesday. CBU took game one 7-0, and UTS won game two 6-4 in extra innings.

GAME ONE

Christian Brothers scored in the third (2), fourth (1), fifth (1), and sixth (3) to cruise to a win.

Macey Ciramella suffered the loss tossing 2.2 innings and allowing two earned runs. Bailey Abernathy threw the final 3.1 innings allowing five earned runs.

GAME TWO

UT Southern took the initial lead in the second. Syndey Self hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Kaley Ezell. UTS led 1-0 heading to the third.

Self reached on a fielder's choice to first driving in Gracie Braden. UTS expanded the lead to 2-0 heading to the fifth.

CBU added a pair of runs via a double to right center in the sixth. Both teams were tied at two with one frame left.

In the eighth, the Firehawks scored four runs. Stella Gilbreath singled to center scoring Hayley Barnes. Self doubled to right center scoring Abigail Hornbuckle and Anisten Burleson. Hayley Parrott singled to center plating Self. UTS led 6-2 heading to the CBU half.

Christian Brothers scored a pair of runs but ran out of outs.

Kassidy Davis hurled a complete game allowing four earned runs securing the win.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will return to Royce Hughes Field hosting Point on Friday, March 22nd.  The twin bill between the Skyhawks and Firehawks will begin at two p.m.
