Firehawks Sweep Ambassadors

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team made it three wins in a row with a double header sweep of Oakwood on Monday. UTS took game one 2-1 and shut the Ambassadors out in game two 4-0.

GAME ONE

UT Southern (10-7) got on the board scoring a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Kaley Ezell reached on an Oakwood error allowing Hannah Lindsey to score. Later in the inning, Mikayla McCain hit a sacrifice fly down the right field line to score Kassidy Davis. UTS led 2-0 after four.

In the fifth, Oakwood scored on a bases loaded walk. UTS led 2-1 after five.

Jayci Boozer got the start and took the claimed the win. Boozer tossed four innings allowing one earned run recording five strikeouts. Ella Singletary threw the final three innings earning her first save of the year. She did not allow a hit and fanned three OU batters.

GAME TWO

UT Southern (11-7) scored in the first, third, and fifth innings to sweep Oakwood.

Lindsey hit a sacrifice fly down the left field line scoring Hayley Parrott. Davis doubled to the same spot scoring Allie Toone. UTS led 2-0 after one.

In the third, Davis tripled to right scoring Toone. UTS led 3-0 after three.

In the fifth, Parrott blasted a home run down the left field line to increase the Firehawk lead to four.

Macey Ciramella took the win tossing the first five innings. Ciramella allowed five hits and retired six Ambassador hitters on strikes. Bailey Abernathy recorded her first save of the year. Abernathy hurled the final two innings allowing one hit.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will travel to Henderson, Tenn., to take on Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday, March 12. The first game of the twin bill will begin at three p.m.
