Firehawks Hand Stillman Their First Loss of the Year in Twin Bill Split

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team split a Sunday pair with Stillman. The Tigers took game one 9-1, while the Firehawks claimed game two 8-4.

GAME ONE

UT Southern (8-7, 0-5) got on the board scoring a run in the opening inning. Kassidy Davis grounded out to short scoring Hayley Parrott. UTS led 1-0 after one.

Stillman (19-0, 3-0) would score four runs in the fourth and fifth to lead 8-1 after five. SC added one more run in the seventh to seal the win.

Davis got the start and took the loss. Davis tossed four innings allowing six earned runs. Jayci Boozer threw the final three innings. She allowed three earned runs.

GAME TWO

UT Southern (9-7, 1-5) scored in the first four innings to blemish Stillman's (19-1, 3-1) record.

Davis grounded out to first scoring Allie Toone. UTS led 1-0.

In the second, Stella Gilbreath homered to right center. Hannah Lindsey singled to left scoring Sydney Self and Abigail Hornbuckle. UTS led 4-0 after two.

In the third, Gilbreath homered again scoring Kaley Ezell. UTS led 6-0 after three.

The Tigers would plate four in the top of the fourth. The Firehawks added a pair in the bottom half to extend the lead. Lindsey doubled down the left field line scoring Parrott. Ezell hit a sacrifice fly down the right field line scoring Lindsey.

Gilbreath tossed a complete game in the win. She allowed one earned run on 10 hits and fanned four Tiger hitters.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will host Oakwood tomorrow at Royce Hughes Field. The Ambassadors and Firehawks will clash at 1 p.m.
