Firehawks Drop Twin Bill to No. 23 Crusaders

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team opened up Southern States Athletic Conference play on the road against #23 William Carey on Friday. The Crusaders swept the Firehawks 7-0 in both games.

GAME ONE

UT Southern (7-2, 0-1) left four runners on the bags in the game. Kassidy Davis' single in the second inning was the only hit allowed by William Carey (9-2, 1-0).

Davis (2-1) got the start and threw a complete game. She allowed seven earned runs and struck out three WCU batters.

GAME TWO

UT Southern (7-3, 0-2) would threaten in the first, but leave runners on the corners.

In the fourth, UTS would draw a lead off walk and add a base hit, but William Carey (10-2, 2-0) would get out of the jam.

In the fifth, the Firehawks tried to rally with two outs, but would strand a pair of runners.

Stella Gilbreath (2-1) would toss 5.1 innings. She allowed five earned runs. Ella Singletary would work the final two outs allowing two earned runs.  

NEXT UP

UT Southern will conclude the weekend conference trip in Mobile tomorrow playing a twin bill with the #12 Rams. Game one will begin at 12 p.m.
