Firehawks Sweep Eutectics

PULASKI, Tenn. -  The University of Tennessee Southern softball team played their third twin bill of the week, hosting the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy on Sunday. UT Southern earned their third fifth win in a row 8-1 and won 11-1 game in the second game.

GAME ONE

Mikayla McCain grounded out to second allowing Hayley Parrott to score. Stella Gilbreath singled to left driving in Hannah Lindsey and Allie Toone. UTS led 3-0 after one.

In the second, Toone singled to first scoring Parrott. The Firehawks led 4-0 heading to the third.

In the third, Gilbreath homered to left center making the score 5-0.

In the fourth, UHSP (0-3) got one back to trail 5-1. In the bottom of the inning, UTS answered back with three more. Parrott singled to left scoring Hanna Hill. Toone doubled down the right center scoring Parrott. Lindsey reached on a fielding error allowing Toone to cross the plate.

Jayci Boozer (2-0) tossed six innings. She allowed four hits and one run while striking out seven. Macy Ciramella tossed the final inning giving up a free pass.

GAME TWO

In game two, UT Southern would score in the first, third, and fourth innings. The Firehawks would explode for seven runs in the opening frame. Toone doubled to center field scoring Parrott. Lindsey doubled to score Toone. Gilbreath doubled to left scoring Lindsey. McCain would score on a wild pitch. Kassidy Davis tripled to right scoring Gilbreath. Hornbuckle singled to center driving in Davis. Parrott hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring Hill. UTS led 7-0 after one.

In the third, Lindsey singled to center field scoring Sydney Self and Parrott. UTS led 9-0 after three.

In the fourth, Hornbuckle doubled down the left field line scoring Davis. Kaley Ezell hit a sacrifice fly to right driving in Hornbuckle. The Firehawks led 11-0 after four.

In the fifth, the Eutectics drove in one, but couldn't plate anymore.

Ciramella (1-0) got the start and pitched three innings allowing four hits. Bailey Abernathy tossed the final two innings allowing one earned run.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will travel to McKenzie, Tenn., to face Bethel on Tuesday, February 20th. First pitch of the twin bill is scheduled for 1 p.m.
