Davis and Gilbreath Toss Complete Games, Firehawks Sweep Lions

PULASKI, Tenn. -  The University of Tennessee Southern softball team played their second twin bill of the young season, hosting Bryan on Wednesday. UT Southern earned their third five inning win by the count of 16-2 and won 10-4 game in the night cap.

GAME ONE

Hanna Hill got the Firehawks on the board in the second. Hill singled to center scoring Stella Gilbreath and Kassidy Davis. Hayley Parrott doubled to left center clearing the bases as Sydney Self, Hill, and Kaley Ezell. Hannah Lindsey singled to center driving in Parrott. Davis singled down the left field line scoring Allie Toone. Ezell doubled to left scoring Lindsey and Davis. Parrott Doubled to left clearing the bases as Hill, Self, and Ezell scored. UTS led 12-0 after two.

In the fourth, Bryan would score a pair, but the Firehawks would answer with four more runs. Hill Hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Gilbreath. Self singled to right scoring Gracie Braden. Toone singled to right center scoring Self. Lindsey reached on a fielder's choice driving in Parrott. UTS led 16-2 heading to the fifth.

Davis tossed a complete game earning her second win of the season. She allowed two runs and fanned five of Lion batters.

GAME TWO

In game two, UT Southern would score in the first five innings. Lindsey would hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Parrott. UTS led 1-0 after one.

In the second, Bryan added two to take the lead 2-1. In the bottom half, Self doubled to left scoring Davis. Parrott singled to left scoring Self. UTS led 3-2 after two complete.

In the third, Gilbreath doubled to right driving in Lindsey. Ezell hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Davis. The Firehawks led 6-2.

In the fourth, Bryan, again, would score two runs trailing 6-4. UT Southern scored three in the bottom of the inning. Lindsey singled up the middle scoring Parrott and Self. Gilbreath singled to center scoring Lindsey. The Firehawks extended the lead to 9-4.

In the fifth, Toone doubled to score Self. UTS extended the lead to 10-4.

Gilbreath got the start and pitched seven innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits. She recorded eight strikeouts in the win.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will host the Eutectics of Health Sciences and Pharmacy for a twin bill Sunday at Royce Hughes Field with game one starting at noon.
